  • Bumper birthday issue, which includes 60-pages of anniversary content, drives 136% uplift in advertising revenues

Homes & Gardens, Britain’s oldest decorating magazine, is celebrating its centenary this month with a 136% uplift in advertising revenues year-on-year, its biggest advertising generating issue in recent years. The 276-page commemorative collectors’ edition goes on sale today, Thursday 02 May.

The June edition is also the title’s biggest issue in more than 10 years in terms of pagination and includes 60 pages of exclusive anniversary-themed content charting the values, aesthetics, styles, opinions and characters to have graced the pages throughout Homes & Gardens’ history. Looking to the next 100 years, a definitive 26-page section called ‘The Hundred List’ bookmarks the tastemakers of today – the designers, decorators and furniture makers, garden designers and retailers – who are setting the style agenda for the next 100 years.

Sarah Spiteri, Homes & Gardens editorial director, says: “When Homes & Gardens first launched, the average house cost £320 and readers were troubled by the concept of living without a maid. The brand has innovated and evolved over 100 years to remain one of the UK’s best-loved design and decoration titles. Delving into the archives has been an extraordinary experience and this celebratory issue highlights both our favourite findings and those ‘what were we thinking?’ moments. We have also taken the opportunity to celebrate the future of design with The Hundred List, an authoritative list of tastemakers and game-changers in today’s industry.”

In its milestone year, the brand also establishes itself in the digital space with the launch of, a new premium website dedicated to delivering decorating inspiration, stunning houses and design insights from industry players to the brand’s growing online audience.

A lively calendar of reader events across the summer will be hosted, including talks with some of the best-known authorities in the industry and the first Homes & Gardens House Tours.

Heal’s, who advertised in the launch issue of Homes & Gardens in June 1919, is also partnering the brand as part of the birthday celebrations. A window display unveiled at its flagship Tottenham Court Road store will throughout May feature a capsule furniture collection designed by Homes & Gardens using the Heal’s Designed by You concept. The three-piece set, styled for classic living rooms, features fabrics from Homes & Gardens’ III collection from Baker Lifestyle at GP & J Baker and comprises a velvet sofa, pink armchair and footstool.  Heal’s is also sponsoring a three-page gatefold in the birthday issue.
