NME to open its doors to entry-level professionals to curate life hacks event featuring life guidance, careers advice and live music

NME is joining forces with youth employment initiative Create Jobs to launch an event for young talent aspiring to break into creative industries. The one-day event aspires to show 18-25 year-olds how to get ahead with talks from a roster of high-profile speakers along with networking masterclasses for budding creatives to connect with industry influencers.

Inspirational speakers from media, design, fashion, film and music will take to the stage to share their advice on careers and life in the creative industries, as well as hosting workshops and networking sessions. A hackspace will see start-ups present their businesses, alongside chill-out areas with gaming stations, photo booths, food and drink. #LifeHacks will culminate in an exclusive gig, staged in an intimate setting.

The event will be created by young Londoners from Create Jobs working alongside NME in a series of editorial, design and marketing workshops.

Mike Williams, NME editor-in-chief, says: “From curation through to the event itself, every part of this is about creating opportunities for young people and kick-starting their careers. NME is giving its audience access to some of the best talent in the creative industries and we hope that this will become a launch pad for the next generation of creatives.”

Sumi Ejiri, Create Jobs partnerships manager, adds: “NME are a dream partner for Create Jobs, having unprecedented access to some of the brightest talents in the creative industries. We’re very excited to be working alongside them to open up the doors and enable a new generation of diverse, talented young Londoners to come through.”

NME is famed for its power of discovery and this new event signals the brand’s commitment as a trusted authority to use music as a gateway to wider influence. Bringing to market this new brand event will open up new commercial opportunities for NME’s partners, too.

The event will be held on 13 October at The Islington Metal Works and tickets are available from nme.com/lifehacks. Further details about the event and confirmed speakers will be announced in due course.
